Discounted short courses

A unique opportunity to support people looking to future-proof and up-skill for the future.

Government Discounted Short Courses

The Federal Government recently announced discounted student fees for short courses at universities included as part of their COVID-19 recovery package. This initiative is a unique opportunity for school leavers and workers looking to up-skill or future-proof their career.

UOW is offering a broad range of heavily subsidised short courses that can be studied online and completed by December 2020. This Government initiative has resulted in fees for the below programs being reduced by a minimum of 48% and up to 85%.

Upskill with one of our Undergraduate or Graduate Certificates

A suite of  online  Undergraduate and  Graduate  Certificates, each consisting of four university-level subjects, will start in July 2020.

Each short course is delivered  online  over one semester and finishes in December 2020. This excludes the  Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics, which is offered over one or two Trimesters, starting in May or August and finishing  in August or November 2020.

Why choose this course?

Once students  have  successfully completed  the four  required subjects  they will obtain a  formally  recognized Undergraduate  Certificate  or Graduate Certificate, as well as new skills and knowledge that can be applied to their current role or to a new career.

Alternatively, students can choose to continue studying and  enrol  in a UOW undergraduate or postgraduate degree in 2021. The four subjects completed in the  Undergraduate  or Graduate Certificate will be credited towards an aligned UOW degree – making a full-length UOW degree both shorter and less expensive; with up to 85% of the first-session fee being covered by the government recovery package.

How much will it cost?

The maximum student fees for these courses have been set at significantly discounted rates, with a reduction between 48% – 85%.

Each course costs between $1250 and $2500 and students can defer their payment through HECS-HELP.

How to apply

You can apply online for a UOW Undergraduate or Graduate Certificate. There is no application fee and you can save your application at any point and come back and complete it later.

In Step 3 of your application, ensure you choose the following options:

  • Mode of Delivery: Distance/Online
  • Commencement Year: 2020
  • Campus: Wollongong

Your preferred Undergraduate or Graduate Certificate will then appear for you to select.

Transitioning to University Study

At UOW, we understand that students bring a diverse range of knowledge, skills, and experiences to university. Some students have never been to university before, whilst others bring significant industry experience. To enable you to succeed when commencing your Undergraduate or Graduate Certificate, UOW has a suite of transition activities when you start. This includes:

  1. Workshops delivered by current students that show you ‘how to uni’;
  2. Bridging programs that can help you get up to speed with the foundational knowledge required in the first semester of your course, such as Maths or Academic Literacy;
  3. Developing a personalised transition plan to connect you in with UOW’s student services and programs early.

You will be contacted with further information about these initiatives when you enrol.
