UOW concerned for contractor’s wellbeing.
At approximately 2.40pm today (Thursday January 9, 2020), University of Wollongong (UOW) security officers were advised that a contractor had fallen from a roof at a demolition site adjacent to the Campus East student accommodation, located at the northern end of the Innovation Campus in Squires Way, North Wollongong.
NSW Ambulance and Police attended and treated the man at the scene before transporting him to hospital.
The University is concerned about the man’s wellbeing and is in the process of contacting his employer and family to express support at this time.
University staff are investigating the incident and will assist NSW workplace safety authorities with any investigation as needed.
Demolition works have been underway at the site since November to remove old student accommodation buildings that are no longer in use.
The University will not be providing any interviews at this time. UOW will release more information as and when appropriate.
